Under John Lynch’s SB 500 Sex Offender Released After Only 90 DAYS

October 1, 2010Matt Suermann

This is simply amazing.  Because of John Lynch’s SB 500, a prison reform bill which has had the effect of allow sex offenders out of prison after serving a fraction of their sentence.  As the Union Leader noted this morning, this has the potential of becoming one of the top issues in the campaign in the final 33 days of the campaign.  Now, the Conway Daily Sun is reporting that a repeat sex offender is being releaesed from prison early, all because of SB 500.

The nightmare call came from a probation officer Tuesday for the Gilmore family. Thanks to new state prison reform, the family was told Michael Seibel, of Conway, would be freed from prison in 90 days.

The 32-year-old three-time sex offender stalked the Gilmore’s teenage daughter last year as he eyed a latest band of youthful targets — Including another Kennett High teen Seibel molested at his pregnant teenage girlfriend’s baby shower.

It all happened when he was on parole for an earlier local child molestation charge. He was convicted of two misdemeanors, for which he will spend just under two years in county jail.

But under prison reform legislation taking effect Friday, Seibel won’t get the additional five years of hard state prison time he likely once would have earned for violating parole.

The Gilmores say Seibel will now get 90 days for the violation under the bill, which won bipartisan support due to its aim of cutting into prison overspending.

State Sen. Jeb Bradley, R-Wolfeboro, said the good-intentioned effort has to be stopped and fixed before any more felons hit the streets.

Bradley said he will fight to stop more releases until dangerous criminals are weeded out.

“It’s got to be dealt with and it should be dealt with ASAP,” he said. “We were not told sexual predators or violent offenders were going to be released.”

This shocking turn has shown how flawed this law is and how Lynch is scrambling to contain the fallout from it.  The funny thing is, didn’t Lynch promise that the buck stops at his desk?  I guess that only applies for handling things that don’t have the ability to cripple his re-election campaign.

How did that first parole work out for you Gov Flynch? imagine losing your power because of a sex offender? When it actually should be because your a liar, incompetent, and a weak, vindictive, mean little man. Your life is catching up to you Johnny.

Good Morning, I am the oldest Gilmore sister.
My youngest sister was the one sought out and targeted by Michael Seibel.
First off, I’d like to address the incorrect information that was quoted in this article. Seibel will not be released from prison in 90 days. He has a recent conviction of 2 years yet to serve. The 90 days is the maximum he will receive for the current parole violations he is up for. He was looking at 5 years or more until this law became effective and reduces it to 90 days total he will serve.
The article was good, but I felt that Siebel being released in 90 days was misleading, as it wasn’t referenced correctly in the original story in the Conway Sun.
