An open letter to Senator Shaheen
June 8, 2009Dear Senator Shaheen,
Today you will meet with Supreme Court nominee Sotomayor.
New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen gets her chance Monday to meet with U.S. Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor.
The two will meet at Shaheen’s office Monday afternoon. Shaheen, a Democrat, has praised Sotomayor’s career as a federal judge and says she has consistently demonstrated independence and a deep knowledge of the law.
A deep knowledge of the law? How about the 60% of the time that the Supreme Court has overturned her decisions? Will you ask her about that? Maybe you can ask her these as well:
Her position on abortion. What is it? Her position on gun control. What is it? Her position on gay marriage. What is it? Her position on states’ rights vs. increased federal power. What is it? Does she still stand by her comments concerning Appeals Courts making policy? Will she interpret the Constitution as a strict fundamentalist or will she legislate from the bench? Will she be a “moderate” as many Dems have called her?

You know it will be a “Love Fest” when Shaheen meets with Sotomayor. Just as BHO was never vetted by the liberal press, we run the risk of Sotomayor being confirmed without having to answer one difficult question. With Minnesota on the verge of authorizing the November election results giving Dems the majority, our dear Legislature (both Houses) will run her through on BHO’s timetable. Thus she will NOT be properly vetted either. Big Deal that she’s a woman; bigger deal that she’s a minority, or woman of colour, she has shown BY HER RECORD that she does not have a firm handle on THE LAW, nor does she understand which branch of government makes that law.
