Ants Marching Thanks to Taxpayers
August 30, 2010“Frank’s Fifty” targets $2 million in stimulus funds for ant analysis
Manchester, NH – Republican Congressional candidate Frank Guinta has hit 36 of his innovative “Frank’s Fifty” spending cut program by continuing to point out frivolous spending included in the failed Stimulus package. Today’s wasteful program is a near-$2 million taxpayer subsidy for ant analysis. The California Academy of Sciences received the money to capture, photograph and analyze ants in East Africa and on islands in the Indian Ocean.
“If the California Academy of Sciences wants to conduct this research, they can pay for it themselves or find private sources of funding,” said Guinta. “As taxpayers we cannot afford any more of this frivolous stimulus spending, which does nothing to create jobs in America.”
“Frank’s Fifty” has targeted wasteful government spending at all levels. Guinta has called for an end of funding of the Obamacare takeover, the elimination of the Departments of Energy and Education, and an end to taxpayer subsidies for the Corporation of Public Broadcasting. So far Guinta has proposed nearly $700 billion in spending cuts, which would cover more than half the country’s current budget deficit. This week Guinta is targeting specific awards given through the stimulus package passed last year.
“This debate isn’t about whether these are worthy projects to conduct, it’s about whether taxpayers can afford to foot the bill for them,” Guinta continued. “Carol Shea-Porter promised us the stimulus package would create jobs, but instead we’re using taxpayer money to study ants half a world away.”
Guinta will announce a specific spending cut every day until the Republican primary on September 14th. There are just 15 days until this year’s primary. For more information about Frank Guinta’s campaign, visit http://www.teamguinta.com.
