Concord Monitor Endorses Stephen

The endorsement train continued this morning for the Stephen campaign with endorsement of the Concord Monitor.  Here is part of what the Monitor had to say about Stephen and why they feel he is best to take on Lynch in November.

John Stephen is the Republican candidate who can make the strongest case against Democratic Gov. John Lynch.

Stephen has been an assistant attorney general and assistant commissioner at the Department of Safety. He has run for office before, making him a familiar face to voters in at least parts of the state. He has served as a consultant to other state governments in recent years. Most important, he spent several years at the helm of the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services, the largest agency of state government.

Indeed, the GOP nominee for governor must do more than criticize. He or she must convince voters that there is a better path.

Stephen is promoting a plan that’s significantly different. He says he would lower business taxes and create a rooms and meals tax holiday. He would push to repeal some taxes and fees. He would champion a constitutional amendment requiring a super-majority vote of the Legislature to raise taxes in the future. He would join those states suing the federal government over health-care reform. He wants to revamp the state’s Medicaid program.
