Ground Zero Mosque
July 23, 2010The new Ground Zero Mosque will be named after Cordoba Spain where the Muslims conquered the Christians. How charming, an interfaith place to gather. see below

Now check out Newt Gingriches site, he states;
“There should be no mosque near Ground Zero in New York so long as there are no churches or synagogues in Saudi Arabia. The time for double standards that allow Islamists to behave aggressively toward us while they demand our weakness and submission is over.
The proposed “Cordoba House” overlooking the World Trade Center site – where a group of jihadists killed over 3000 Americans and destroyed one of our most famous landmarks - is a test of the timidity, passivity and historic ignorance of American elites.”
I desire to see/hear candidates respond to this. Is this a NYC issue or an American issue. Further, Sean Hannity tonight added that this Mosque will likely desire to employ Sharia Law. What do Senatorial and Congressional Candidates know about Sharia Law? Is this something you can live with?
Further, if they can have Sharia Courts in Britain, how long before we make room for it in the Constitution.
Oh, but this is silly, that will never happen.
Ask yourself this question: Did you ever believe, in your lifetime, that we are as close to socialism as we are at this moment?

As a candidate, and as an ex-New Yorker who lost friends in the 9/11 attacks, my answer is this: I am outraged by the politicization of this issue.
The current issue before NYC government is NOT whether a mosque should be allowed ‘near’ ground zero. The issue is whether the proposed alterations to the building are consistent with historic commission guidelines and regulations.
If the question was “should a mosque be built…’” then clearly the answer is a resounding YES.
This nation has enshrined in the First Amendment of the Constitution the right of all people to proactice their religion…PERIOD. We do not ignore Constitutional Rights because we don’t like “those people.” Once we do that, the terrorists have indeed won, and the American way of life has gone the way of every other tinhorn dictatorship.
It is by granting that freedom for Muslims to worship in that spot that we show how great America is. There IS no other option for Constitutionally-minded, patriotic Americans.

It’s not a mosque: it’s a community center with a large room which could be used for prayer services. More to the point, it’s not at Ground Zero: it is a good two or three blocks away on Park Place between West Broadway & Church Streets. By new York City standards, that’s a significant distance.
Even if it was a mosque, freedom of religion is a core value in our society. It applies to Islam just like any other religion. There are some of us who want to limit freedom of religion to mainstream Christianity (and maybe Judaism), but I might want to warn them that even that most American of all Americans, Mama Grizzly Herself, Her Palinosity Sarah Palin, is a member of a non-mainstream religion. She is a member of the Assemblies of God, which is a non-Catholic Christian church, but which is also a Christian church which stands very much outside the mainstream of conventional Protestantism. Or to name another example, His Beckness Glenn Beck is a Mormon.

A mosque literally at Ground Zero would indeed be a bad idea… but the same would go for a Christian church at Ground Zero. This is a site where members of all religions, as well as many atheists, lost their lives.

I find it interesting that in this country, the attitude it now that Christians are considered murderers and dangerous but Muslims are given a pass… Last I knew, if you send your kid to Catholic school, they don’t teach them to be suicide bombers at age 5 or to hate like they do in even the most uppercrust of Muslim academies, most notably the UN sanctioned ones.
For example, the underwear bomber was graduate of one of those schools.
