Guinta Hits Mahoney on Immigration
September 8, 2010The back and forth between the Mahoney and Guinta Campaigns continued today with more press releases over bank accounts and immigration stances. Here is Guinta’s statement on comments made by Mahoney yesterday and on the trail.
Mahoney Won’t Admit Support of Amnesty
Hiding support by claiming problem of illegal immigration is too hard to solve
Manchester, NH – Republican Congressional candidate Frank Guinta is calling on Sean Mahoney to for once be honest with New Hampshire voters, and admit to them that he supports amnesty. At last night’s WMUR/Union Leader Granite State Debate, Mahoney falsely claimed that the four candidates on the stage have largely the same opinion on illegal immigration. What Mahoney failed to tell New Hampshire voters is that he is the only one of the four who opposes deporting illegal immigrants. Mahoney supports having illegal immigrants register, pay a fine, learn English, and get in the back of the line towards citizenship. He also claims laws like the one passed in Arizona will lead to, in his words, “self-deportation”.
“Sean Mahoney is on the record multiple times in support of amnesty. But he realized that position doesn’t poll well, so now he’s trying to tell New Hampshire voters something different,” said Guinta. “Sean Mahoney has proven in this race that he will say or do anything to get elected, including lying about his record in support of amnesty.”
Mahoney’s position on illegal immigrants is strikingly similar to that of President Obama. On July 1st, President Obama said of illegal immigrants: “They should be required to register, pay their taxes, pay a fine, and learn English”. According to the Union Leader, Mahoney thinks illegal immigrants “should be required to register, pay a fine, pay taxes, and be required to check in on a periodic basis”. Mahoney made the same statement at a Sandown Republican candidates’ forum in July, saying illegal immigrants should remain in the country even though he freely admits they are breaking the law by being here.
“Sean Mahoney is hiding his support of amnesty by claiming the problem of illegal immigration is too hard to solve,” Guinta continued. “Mahoney doesn’t even know the facts about illegal immigration, and won’t be honest with the voters about his support of amnesty. How at all can we trust him to deal with this issue?”
