Wasting Taxpayer Money? There’s an App for That!

NH taxpayers footing the bill so kids in Utah can use iPods

Manchester, NH – Republican Congressional candidate Frank Guinta turned his attention to further waste in the failed stimulus package. Today’s “Frank’s Fifty” spending cut is a $1 million stimulus award for a high school in Utah to cover the cost of iPod touches. This program, the Enhancing Education Through Technology grant, allows students to use the devices before, during, and after school, and keep them if they graduate on time.

“Instead of using federal tax dollars to bribe students into graduating on time, let’s leave that money in people’s pockets so local residents can decide how they want their children to learn,” said Guinta. “Carol Shea-Porter believes in wasting taxpayer money on programs we can’t afford. Apparently there’s now an app for that.”

“Frank’s Fifty” has targeted wasteful government spending at all levels. Guinta has called for an end of funding of the Obamacare takeover, the elimination of the Departments of Energy and Education, and an end to taxpayer subsidies for the Corporation of Public Broadcasting. So far Guinta has proposed nearly $700 billion in spending cuts, which would cover more than half the country’s current budget deficit. This week Guinta is targeting specific awards given through the stimulus package passed last year.

“This debate isn’t about whether these are worthy projects to conduct, it’s about whether taxpayers can afford to foot the bill for them,” Guinta continued. “Carol Shea-Porter promised us the stimulus package would create jobs, but instead New Hampshire taxpayers are paying for children in Utah.”

Guinta will announce a specific spending cut every day until the Republican primary on September 14th. There are just 14 days until this year’s primary. For more information about Frank Guinta’s campaign, visit http://www.teamguinta.com.
